The Oscars is one of the most anticipated nights of the year. It’s the evening where leading actors and outstanding movies are congratulated. This year, a bunch of second-to-none movies were awarded and particular stars were patted on the back for their talent and terrific performances.

Coming out on top at the 86th Academy Awards was the Sandra Bullock and George Clooney blockbuster – Gravity. The science fiction thriller was awarded an astonishing seven trophies out of ten nominations. It picked up Oscars for ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Visual Effects’, ‘Best Cinematography’ and more. The visuals in Gravity were beyond question – marvellous. It was a justified win.

12 Years a Slave received a total amount of three Oscars, including one for ‘Best Picture’, ‘Adapted Screenplay’ and the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ went to Lupita Nyong’o. This was the actresses’ first movie role and she managed to grab herself an Oscar. Wow! Nyong’o delivered a powerful and emotional acceptance speech;

“Thank you to the Academy for this incredible recognition,” she said. “It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s. And so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey for her guidance. And for Solomon, thank you for telling her story and your own.

“…When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from your dreams are valid.”

Nyong’o undoubtedly deserved an award for her incredible portrayal as Patsey. She is insanely talented.

Meanwhile, Cate Blanchett took home an award for ‘Best Actress’ in Blue Jasmine while Matthew McConaughey won ‘Best Actor’ for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.

As an avid blogger and someone who eats, sleeps and breathes entertainment, I decided to take matters into my own hands and establish a pop culture website. Ever since I can remember, I've been interested in the world of celebrities, have listened to the latest music, and watched the newest movies. My guilty pleasure is watching cheesy reality shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, but I’m also a sucker for all things Marvel and DC - two entirely different worlds, I know.
