Following the cliff-hanger of Mockingjay Part 1, the final Hunger Games movie hit theater screens and what a roller-coaster ride of emotions it was. From bleak scenes of warship to moments of heartbreak as well as joy, we’ve picked out the best moments from Mockingjay Part 2…
Katniss is DONE Being a Piece in His Game
Katniss even has the ability to make her haters have second thoughts. In an epic scene, she’s held hostage by a refugee. Katniss succeeded in making him surrender with her powerful anti-President Snow speech but she’s later shot by someone else and chaos ensues…
Petrifying Pod #1
The Capitol has no chill! They sure went to great lengths to set up a number of traps! As much as we hate the Capitol, we must admit that their pods are pretty impressive! Things really turned up a notch when a spray of bullets came flying out of the walls, almost killing Squad 451! Thank God for Boggs’ Holo!
Petrifying Pod #2
We held onto the edge of our seats during this moment of madness. Katniss and crew were victim to yet another of the Capitol’s pods and this time it was the wave of lava. Not only did Katniss have to escape the black mass, she also had to fight Peeta off from trying to kill her. This was certainly one of the most heart-racing scenes of the movie.
Mutt Massacre
Palms sweating…hearts racing. What an epic scene! We felt like we were watching an episode of The Walking Dead when those mongrel mutts were unleashed underground. It hurt our soul though watching Finnick fall and disappear into a flock of the awful wolf mutations.
Petrifying Pod #3
Can you imagine running away from a huge, moving meat grinder? Thank goodness Katniss and co managed to escape the petrifying pod because that wouldn’t have ended in a pretty sight.
“Always”
Throughout the first half of Mockingjay Part 2, we feared Peeta would finish off Katniss at any moment so when she finally kissed him and made him remember their “always”, we were overjoyed.
Tigris, the True Hero
Even fans of the book were taken aback by Tigris’ appearance. But thanks to her, Squad 451 were kept away from harm for a while. Can we all just agree that Tigris was the true hero of Mockingjay Part 2?!
Keep Your Hood on Katniss
This particular scene had us on the verge of heart failure, it was that distressing. Watching Katniss and Gale pose as refugees and almost get caught by the Gamekeepers left us in a bundle of nerves. When the Rebels began attacking and the scene erupted in chaos, we too felt like we were in the middle of a crossfire.
Exploding Sponsor Gifts
Prim alongside many other innocent Panem citizens died in a heartless ploy created by Coin. In a gut-wrenching scene, hundreds of refugees were led to believe that the tiny parachutes coming from a hovercraft were gifts. They were in fact bombs which detonated, killing a herd of people and knocking Katniss unconscious. Damn that was heart-breaking.
The Mockingjay and Snow
Katniss and Snow finally met face to face but killing him wasn’t her priority anymore. When she saw that he was dying of a terminal illness, Katniss decided to focus her attention on Coin instead, who also contributed to the deaths of Panem’s people, including Prim. We must admit, we kinda enjoyed Snow’s subtle sarcasm during this scene…
Saving the Best Shot For Last
Katniss finally prepared to kill President Snow, bow and arrow at the ready in one of the final, dramatic scenes of Mockingjay Part 2. The Girl on Fire took fans (who haven’t read the book) by surprise when she suddenly decided to shoot her arrow straight into Coin’s heart instead. We felt sweet satisfaction watching that cold bitch fall to the ground and Snow literally choke to a slow death on his own blood!
That Haymitch and Effie Kiss
Another romance blossomed in Panem between Effie and Haymitch. We always knew those two had chemistry so when they finally kissed, we almost fell off our chairs out of happiness.
Katniss + Peeta = Always
Team Peeta was definitely pleased with Mockingjay Part 2’s ending. In an ending many fans found to be cringy, things ended rather blissfully for Katniss and Peeta after years of warship. What a great ending to a great franchise.
That’s it, folks, The Hunger Games is officially over…
