Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller announces he is gay
We didn’t see this one coming!
Wentworth Miller has announced that he is gay.
The Prison Break star was invited to a Russian film festival but had rejected the offer due to the country’s anti-gay laws. In a letter that was published on GLADD’s website, Miller wrote to the director of the festival, Maria Averbakh saying,
“Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man, I must decline.”
Miller continued, “I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government.”
“The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.”
He concluded, “If circumstances improve, I’ll be free to make a different choice.”
Good on you Wentworth!
Several celebs have applauded the 41-year-old for publicly revealing his sexuality. Ellen DeGeneres wrote on Twitter,
“I’m proud of Wentworth Miller for speaking out in support of equality. Russia doesn’t know what they’re missing.”
Neil Patrick Harris also praised the actor, “Well done, Wentworth Miller. Bravo.”
Danay Garcia who played Sofia Lugo on Prison Break, tweeted, “Challenges are presented to us as affirmations of our strength. I support you #Wentworth Miller. Incredible human being.”
Amaury Nolasco who played the role of Fernando Sucre, posted on his Twitter page, ” I applaud my boy, Wentworth Miller’s courageousness. I’m proud of you brother, for standing up for what you believe in. Enough is enough!”
We bet the ladies are gutted! Miller is out of bounds!
We salute you Wentworth!
